Matagi Sorensen

Matagi Sorensen

Yavapai Apache

Matagi Sorensen has been creating objects of art since he was a child. Throughout his childhood, making arts provided a creative refuge as well as a way to contribute to the family’s income. With the realization that he wanted to pursue a career as a jewelry designer and craftsman, Matagi attended Northern Arizona University where he studied metalsmithing and jewelry. Upon graduation, Matagi’s career has flourished with collectors and shows around the country. His contemporary style, which merges an urban sensibility with natural elements, reflects the two worlds he has moved through since his youth. Matagi is a member of the Yavapai Apache Nation and currently lives and works in Phoenix.
